Being in the moment: 4 moments you might choose to be in

There’s a lot of talk in the health media these days about being in the moment. Apparently, being in the moment helps you to relax and get on with life without noticing the utter mess this world is in. It’s said that being in the moment can make you a better person. What’s never said is which moment you’re supposed to be in.

Ever keen to do you all a favour, we’ve picked four moments that you may or may not choose to spend your time in. We’ll cover how to reach those moments in a separate article – this isn’t the moment for that right now.

So, without further ado…

1. This moment…

Charles and Eddie the elephants

You don’t have to be an elephant to see why this moment was worth it, or why you might want to be in that particular one. Meet Charles and Eddie, two male elephants currently residing at the West Midlands Safari Park. While Charles likes to think he’s a bit of a hit with the ladies, Eddie knows which side his bread’s buttered on (the homosexual side), and he’s a bit of a japester to boot.

With that knowledge in mind, you’d think this was a moment that only Eddie would ever wish to repeat, but in fact you’d be wrong. Both elephants enjoyed this moment, although it took Charles a week or two to see the funny side.

2. This moment…

Hilary on the toilet

This is Hilary, and this is her best moment. We know she enjoyed this moment, not just because she talks about it a lot (too much, Hilary, if you’re reading this) when she’s making the Glamourless office sandwiches in her delicatessen across the road, but also because you can see the sheer joy in this selfie.

According to Hilary: ‘I’d been looking forward to this moment all morning. When it came to pass, I hung on in there for a few extra minutes, just until it was almost too much to bear. Then, once I’d set the iPhone up, I just let it all go. It was quite the moment.’ If you’re looking for a moment to be in, Hilary says this one was difficult to top.

3. That moment…

One direction and the exploding fish

For One Direction fans, the moment to be in was the one when Harry Styles turned up on stage, drunk and abusive, wielding a fish supper. ‘Piss artists, the lot of you!’ he yelled at the lucky crowd. ‘Don’t you realise there’s more to me than a wannabe Beegee’s haircut? Appreciate me! Appreciate me, damnit!! I’ve a fish supper and I’m not afraid to use it!’

Seconds later he detonated the battered haddock. Those who were in the moment aren’t likely to forget it in a hurry.

4. Probably not this moment…

Man shits self during marathon

There can’t be many reasons why Micke Ekvall would want to go back to the 2008 Göteborg half-marathon, during which he let himself down all over himself. Credit where credit is due, though: the fella tried hard to turn the whole goddamned mess into something respectable, telling a reporter afterwards, ‘[I didn’t clean myself off because] if you quit once, it’s easy to do it again and again and again. It becomes a habit.’ The kind of habit we could all do without, Micke – just look at the shock on the onlooker’s faces. This is one moment nobody hoped they’d have to be in.

Daniel Puppets

Daniel Puppets grew up in Eastleigh, dreaming of escape. At the age of 18 he ran away from home to begin work on the short-lived publication, Winchester Razzle. He saw a lot of things in a short space of time and left having gained the ability to regularly interview two actors, deftly shaven, coupled in a meaningless embrace. He has been with Glamourless ever since the editor forced his hand with blackmail and unsubtle threats.
